In Tide, Gina Keatley channels the slow force of oceanic motion—the perpetual push and pull that defines both the sea and the human condition. With broad, sweeping textures and luminous pools of algae green, the canvas becomes a shoreline caught mid-shift.
The composition carries an unmistakable sense of movement. Areas of opaque black and softened gray flow like sediment beneath the surface, while translucent overlays evoke the lingering presence of water after recession. The central form, bold yet softened at the edges, feels suspended—caught between advance and retreat.
Keatley’s gestural work resists stillness, preferring tension over resolution. Small eruptions of red-orange pigment flicker like sun glancing off the sea’s surface, or perhaps warning signs of change beneath calm waters.
Tide asks us to consider what endures through cycles: erosion, memory, regeneration. In its layered washes and veiled edges, the painting becomes both a record and a rhythm—a quiet anthem to return.
